Sukanlaya Sawang, Peter O'Connor & Muhammad Ali from the Queensland University of Technology Business School in Australia are leading the way in research trying to answer the question: Does technology enhance students' engagement?
They coined the word IEngage In their research article titled, Using Technology to Enhance Students' Engagement in a Large Classroom. There study provides evidence of significant effect of positive attitude and social pressure on the intent to use KEYPads. The use of the KeyPads is directly associated with the level of student engagement. They even find evidence for the relationship between extroverts and introverts and level of engagement.

I haven't heard of KeyPads before- they sound pretty cool! I like the idea of everyone being able to participate at once- so even the quieter students are sharing answers all the time. It also seems like they definitely would engage the whole class. I wonder how practical they are in the classroom- is there a lot of set up involved in creating the questions/games. Are they cost effective? Have you used them? I'd love to see them in action!

I would be interested to see how Keypads work. Is is just a response system? I am always looking to keep the kids engaged and technology is the median they communicate with now. I like how it is totally inclusive so gives those less likely to participate a voice.

I am also very interested about the use of KeyPads. I have never heard of them or about their use in the classroom. From what you have shared, they sound like an effective tool in producing student engagement from all learners, both introverts and extroverts. How do they work, and in what type of classroom are they currently being studied/observed in? How are you transferring the idea/concept of the KeyPads and the use of technology in the classroom to your own classroom? I am looking forward to learning about how you are using their research on the use of KeyPads in the classroom to perform your own research study.
